Valrico is a census-designated place in Hillsborough County, Florida, located about 15 miles east of downtown Tampa and just south of the Brandon retail corridor. With roughly 40,000 residents, it is a mature eastern suburb of the Tampa Bay area that has grown steadily from a rural, agricultural past into a landscape of single-family subdivisions, larger residential lots, and community amenities. The name Valrico, meaning 'rich valley' in Spanish, replaced the settlement's earlier designation of Long Pond in the late 19th century.
