Orlando North Suburb on the Lakes
Condos & Apartments in Maitland, FL
Welcome to Maitland, the Orange County city on the shore of Lake Maitland, known for its lakefront parks, the Enzian Theater, and the historic Maitland Art Center.
Maitland is a city in Orange County, Florida, situated about nine miles north of downtown Orlando along the Interstate 4 corridor. Part of the Greater Orlando metropolitan area, it is one of the region's older suburbs, with a history that stretches back to the 1880s and a landscape shaped by its lakes. The community was incorporated as the town of Lake Maitland in 1885, the third town established in Orange County. Early aldermen planted the large oak trees that still line many of the city's streets, giving Maitland the shaded, established character it retains today. For much of its early history the town was a quiet lakeside retreat; by the mid-20th century, suburban growth transformed it into a sought-after residential destination for families working in Orlando. Water is central to Maitland's identity. The city fronts Lake Maitland, part of the Winter Park Chain of Lakes, and is home to Lake Lily, a smaller lake ringed by a popular park and boardwalk. These lakes support boating, fishing, and waterfront living and give the city a distinctly scenic setting. Maitland is also known as a cultural anchor for the north side of Orlando. The Enzian Theater, a nonprofit arthouse cinema, hosts the Florida Film Festival and other independent programming. The Maitland Art Center, founded as an artist colony in the 1930s and recognized as a National Historic Landmark, is noted for its Mayan Revival architecture and operates today as a museum and arts campus. The city's location, its commuter rail station on SunRail, and its mature neighborhoods make it a practical base for professionals working throughout Orange and Seminole counties while preserving a small-town, lakeside atmosphere.
