Pinellas County Small Town
Rentals in Kenneth City, FL
Welcome to Kenneth City, a close-knit town of about 5,000 between St. Petersburg and Pinellas Park, founded in 1957 and minutes from Tampa Bay's beaches.
Kenneth City is a small incorporated town in southern Pinellas County, Florida, wedged between St. Petersburg and Pinellas Park in the heart of the Tampa Bay area. It is a mid-century creation: developer Sidney Colen filed papers in January 1955 to establish the Kenneth Corporation, named for his young son, and the town was formally founded on April 30, 1957, with its first municipal election following in March 1958. The town is notable for being the site of what is cited as Florida's first condominium development, an early example of a housing form that would later define much of coastal Florida. With a population of about 5,000 in less than one square mile, Kenneth City is one of Pinellas County's smaller municipalities, and it has deliberately kept a small-town identity within a densely built urban county. It has its own police and recreation departments, parks, and civic government, yet it is entirely surrounded by the larger St. Petersburg–Pinellas Park landscape, so shopping, schools, and services are immediately at hand. Kenneth City is served by Pinellas County Schools, with Hollins High School located within the town's limits, and the Pinellas Suncoast Transit Authority provides bus service across the county. Residents are minutes from the Gulf Coast beaches and downtown St. Petersburg, and both Tampa International and St. Pete–Clearwater International airports are close by. Kenneth City suits buyers who want a small, self-governing community with a real sense of place — modest mid-century homes and condos, local parks, and a short drive to beaches, downtown, and airports — without paying the premium or accepting the density of the larger coastal cities around it.
