Treasure Coast Old Florida Town

For Sale in Jensen Beach, FL

Welcome to Jensen Beach, an unincorporated Martin County community on Florida's Treasure Coast, once the "Pineapple Capital of the World" and now a laid-back coastal enclave just north of Stuart.

Jensen Beach is an unincorporated community and census-designated place in Martin County, Florida, on the Treasure Coast of the southeastern part of the state. It sits along the Indian River immediately north of Stuart and occupies part of Hutchinson Island, the barrier island that separates the mainland from the Atlantic Ocean. Jensen Beach is part of the Port St. Lucie metropolitan area and has a population of roughly 12,600. Its history is unusually colorful: after the Florida East Coast Railway reached the area in 1894, Jensen became the center of a booming pineapple industry and was called the "Pineapple Capital of the World," shipping more than a million boxes of fruit each year by the late 1890s. The community was briefly incorporated as a city in 1926, lost that incorporation in 1933, and adopted the name Jensen Beach in 1943. Today Jensen Beach is known less for agriculture than for its relaxed, Old Florida coastal character. The downtown along Jensen Beach Boulevard holds a walkable collection of restaurants, coffee shops, boutiques, and art studios, with traces of its pineapple heritage visible in public art. Across the causeway, Hutchinson Island's oceanfront condominiums, gated communities, and beaches anchor the resort side of the community, while the mainland offers established neighborhoods and waterfront homes along the Indian River. Savannas Preserve State Park, protecting one of the largest freshwater marsh systems on Florida's east coast, lies just to the west. The community is served by the Martin County School District, with Jensen Beach Elementary School and Jensen Beach High School among its local campuses. U.S. Route 1 runs along the mainland, and Interstate 95 is reached via Kanner Highway, keeping Stuart, Port St. Lucie, and the broader Treasure Coast within easy reach. Jensen Beach appeals to families, boaters, and second-home buyers drawn to a lower-key coastal lifestyle than nearby resort towns, with beaches, fishing, and an authentic downtown close at hand.
