Fern Park is a census-designated place and unincorporated community in Seminole County, in the Orlando–Kissimmee–Sanford metropolitan area of Central Florida. It sits immediately north of Casselberry and near Altamonte Springs, Maitland, and Winter Park, roughly ten miles from downtown Orlando. Because it is unincorporated, Fern Park relies on Seminole County for local services and uses a Casselberry mailing address. The community developed as a mid-century residential suburb as the Orlando area grew northward through the second half of the twentieth century. Its housing is a mix of established single-family homes and apartment and condominium communities, with commercial corridors along U.S. 17/92 and State Road 436. Fern Park's location at the junction of those two highways, and near Interstate 4, has long made it a convenient home base for commuters. Daily life in Fern Park is suburban and convenient.
